The Yanks apparently ramped up their Soria hunt this morning. ESPN’s Jayson Stark reported that they “dangled Jesus Montero” in talks, but that “the Royals weren’t interested.” Okay, hold it. In the first place, I have a hard time believing that Cashman would trade Montero for a relief pitcher. Not even a closer at that. And secondly, I have a hard time believing that the Royals would shoot that down. It’s only one person reporting this, so I’m pretty dubious, but where there’s smoke, there’s fire. I didn’t think Cash was going to make a big move at the trade deadline, but it really does feel like he has something up his sleeve. Stay tuned.
