The lack of recent posting is due to me being on vacation with my family, but I’ll do my best.
Well, Sabathia did what he had to last night. In the grand scheme of things, it was not an extraordinarily important game, playing against the third place team in early August. But it felt like one.
CC had been not quite himself if not ineffective in his last few starts, the Yanks had lost an embarrassing one to the Sox the day before, and this was the best pitching matchup for the Yanks in the series.
CC responded, bearing down after a two-run second inning. In total, he allowed just six hits and one walk in eight innings of two-run baseball against the Sox. Not too shabby.
The rest was entrusted to Mo, whose ERA dropped to 0.89 on the season. He’s putting together his best season, and he’s 40 years old. Amazing.
My favorite part of the game was CC striking out Papi three times, including twice looking on fastballs that hit the outside corner. Very fun to watch him frustrated, if I do say so myself.
Anyway, tonight it’ll be Beckett vs. Burnett in a Florida Marlins teammates matchup (doesn’t it seem they always oppose each other when these teams play?). So far my predictions have come true. We’ll see if that continues tonight. ENJOY THE GAME, AND GO YANKS!
